African Bloodstone Designer Necklace

red-line.gif

This African Bloodstone necklace is made using 14mm round gemstones and 12mm roundels with sterling daisy spacers and a large hammered Karen silver toggle. I've provided a closeup here to attempt to show the detail of the stones--a mottled grey-green with splashed of deep blood red. They are incredibly beautiful, much nicer than my photos show. This necklace has matching earrings and would make a great gift for a March birthday girl as it's the traditional March birthstone.

The necklace is 20 inches long.

Note: African Bloodstone, sometimes called Seftonite, is a green jasper dotted with bright red spots of iron oxide. It was treasured in ancient times and served for a long time as the birthstone for March. This attractive chalcedony quartz is also known as heliotrope because in ancient times polished stones were described as reflecting the sun: perhaps the appearance of the gem reminded the ancients of the red setting sun, mirrored in the ocean.
