hand-crafted jewelry from beautiful Bonny Doon

Rhodochrosite Designer Cab

Rhodochrosite derives its pink color from manganese. Argentina has the oldest mines but most of the mineral today is mined in the United States. For gem purposes, it is primarily cut into cabochons. This pretty stone is a long, skinny teardrop with lots of pattern and a gemminess. It also has a high luster. I've border-wrapped it in 22 gauge sterling silver wire and topped it with a double swirl and tiny "claws." Enjoy!

Treat someone special to this one-of-a-kind gift or buy it for yourself.

This delicate pendant measures 2 1/8" from top of bail and is just 5/8" wide.

Note: Rhodochrosite is a manganese carbonate mineral. In its pure form, it is a rose-red color, but impure specimens can be shades of pink to pale brown with streaks of white. Its Mohs hardness varies between 3.5 and 4. Rhodochrosite occurs in veins associated with manganese, copper, silver and lead. It is also called raspberry spar and is a cousin of calcite, but where calcite has calcium, rhodochrosite has manganese.

Enjoy this unique piece of hand-crafted jewelry.
