Rhodochrosite with Siderite Designer Cab

Rhodochrosite derives its pink color from manganese. Siderite is a brownish color with much the same properties as rhodochrosite. Both have been found in abundance at the Foote Mine in North Carolina. This petite designer stone has a high luster and beautiful bands of mauvy brown, almost like a Botswana agate, with a tiny rhodochrosite oink island in the center. The line running across the bottom third of the stone is a healed fracture and in no way diminishes the stone. I've border-wrapped it in 22 gauge sterling silver wire and topped it with my signature curls and swirls. Enjoy!

Treat someone special to this one-of-a-kind gift or buy it for yourself.

This pendant measures 1 7/8" from top of bail and is just over 3/4" wide.

Note: Rhodochrosite is a manganese carbonate mineral. In its pure form, it is a rose-red color, but impure specimens can be shades of pink to pale brown with streaks of white as in this stone mixed with the iron carbonate mineral siderite. Its Mohs hardness varies between 3.5 and 4. Rhodochrosite occurs in veins associated with manganese, copper, silver and lead. It is also called raspberry spar and is a cousin of calcite, but where calcite has calcium, rhodochrosite has manganese.
