Larimar Teardrop Designer Pendant

Larimar can be a vivid robin's egg blue or it can be more of a teal shade or have blue and white patterning. Any way you slice it, larimar is gorgeous and highly sought after. There isn't much of this material on the market, and good quality larimar commands a high price as in the case of this top drawer stone. At first sight I bought it on the spot. It's a thick stone weighing 59 carats with gorgeous marbleized patterning both front and back. The top is slightly domed and has a high polish. I've border-wrapped this beauty in six strands of 21 gauge square wire. The setting is argentium, a tarnish resistant sterling wire. The topper is double swirls with tiny claws curling over the right hand top of the stone. Enjoy this large, beautiful larimar from the Dominican Republic.

The pendant measures 2 1/8" from top of bail and is 7/8" wide.

Note: Larimar is a form of blue pectolite, a sodium calcium silicate mineral with a hardness of 4.5 to 5. It occurs as aggregates of needle-like crystals, grown together in a solid mass, characterized by dramatic patterns of blue, blue-green and white. It forms in cavities within basaltic lava and is found only on the island of Hispaniola in the Dominican Republic. Because the area in which it can be found is tiny and the material is in short supply, the stones are priced accordingly.

Larimar is said to enhance communication and feminine power and soothe the emotional body. Naisha Ahsian, in The Book of Stones, calls larimar one of the cardinal water element stones.
