Belle Rustique

hand-crafted jewelry from beautiful Bonny Doon

Shattuckite/Chrysocolla Designer Cab

Often similar to turquoise in appearance, chrysocolla usually occurs as a bright green or bluish crust or as compact grapelike groups in copper mining areas, particularly Chile, the former USSR and Zaire. This lovely gemstone is a deep, almost lapis blue with a sprinkling of light blue and a bit of brown matrix. The stone is thick, slightly rounded and the finish more satin than glossy. This specimen comes from South Africa and was cut and polished by Sandra in Michigan. Shattuckite is quite rare and this is a fine gemstone. I've border-wrapped it using six strands of sterling silver square wire and added my signature topper. It was sold as a set with the pictured azurite and crystal earrings.

Note: Chrysocolla is a copper bearing mineral found wherever copper deposits occur especially in areas of the southwestern USA, Chili, Zaire, Australia, France and England. Shattuckite is found near the copper mines of Bisbee, AZ as well as in South Africa. The combination is very beautiful and said to be extremely healing.

It is hoped this unique piece of hand-crafted jewelry will be enjoyed by the lucky recipient.
