Malachite with Chrysocolla Designer Pendant

red-line.gif

This new pendant is a gorgeous mix of malachite and chrysocolla--a combination new to me, however, after seeing how beautiful and interesting it is, I've bought several cabs of this material so you'll be seeing more of these! This one's in a delightful heart shape and just in time for Valentine's Day. The pattern is one of several shades of blue with green and brown. Due to the less-than-ideal lighting conditions (days and days of grey skies and rain), the photo doesn't do the stone justice. The stone is thick and I used 6 strands of sterling wire to make the border wrap. It is finished with my signature topper of tailored swirls.

Treat someone special to this one-of-a-kind gift or buy it for yourself.

The pendant measures 2 1/4" from top of bail and is approximately 1 1/2" wide.

Note: Malachite’s color is derived from copper, and it is usually found in opaque green masses. Its crystals are too fine for faceting; it’s generally polished and cut in cabochon form to show off the interesting banding. Malachite is found worldwide, however, Zaire is the major producer. It is considered a stone of transformation and balance.

Chrysocolla is a copper bearing mineral found wherever copper deposits occur especially in areas of the southwestern USA, Chili, Zaire, Australia, France and England. It is often found mixed with azurite, malachite and turquoise. Pure chrysocolla is too soft for jewelry purposes but it is often found in quartz deposits which makes it hard enough to polish for cabochons. Folklore suggests chrysocolla is helpful in creativity, female energy and communication. Some lore ascertain it relieves ulcers and arthritis. Chrysocolla is associated with tranquility and peace, intuition, patience, and unconditional love. It is thought to offer gentle and soothing qualities.
