Tiger Iron Pendant

red-line.gif

This heart-shaped pendant is called tiger iron due to its red and black banding. More commonly used in dinnerware, some ironstone is used for jewelry. I've border wrapped it in sterling silver wire and given it my signature topper.

Treat someone special to this one-of-a-kind gift or buy it for yourself.

The pendant measures 1 7/8" from top of bail and is 1 7/8" wide.

Note: Ironstone is a fine-grained, heavy and compact sedimentary rock. Its main components are the carbonate or oxide of iron, clay and/or sand. It can be thought of as a concretionary form of siderite. Ironstone also contains clay, and sometimes calcite and quartz.

Freshly cleaved ironstone is usually grey. The brown external appearance is due to oxidation of its surface. Ironstone, being a sedimentary rock is not always homogeneous, and can be found in a red and black banded form called tiger iron, sometimes used for jewelry purposes.

Sometimes ironstone hosts concretions or opal gems.

Enjoy this unique piece of hand-crafted jewelry.
