Multi-color Spiderweb Agate Pendant

This designer cut multi-color spiderweb agate is just beautiful with its shades of forest green, moss, mocha, caramel and red. Spiderweb agates come mostly from Idaho and have a Mohs hardness of 6. They are characteristically very colorful with patterning of browns, greens and oranges. I've border-wrapped the stone in a 21 gauge sterling silver wire with double swirls and tiny claws. A sturdy hidden bail will accommodate most chains.

Treat someone special to this one-of-a-kind gift or buy it for yourself.

The pendant measures 2 1/4" from top of bail and is 1 1/8" wide.

Note: Agate is a form of chalcedony, often banded, that comes in an amazing variety of colors. It forms by filling a cavity in a host rock. Agates are found throughout much of the world; the most famous mining of the mineral in Germany’s Nahe Valley. It was highly valued as a talisman in ancient times and is said to quench thirst and protect from fevers. Ancient Persians used agates to divert storms. Some use agate to achieve success in international trade! Spiderweb agate seems to be a fairly new material and I could find almost nothing about it on the Web. I discovered a site that claims another name for this agate is "Crab Fire Agate", however, there is no resemblance between the two stones. Crab fire agate appears to have a center of glass, the pattern running only 20% into the stone, while this stone is solid and opaque.

Enjoy this unique piece of hand-crafted jewelry.
